So many condo units and detached homes are designed with features like extra tall ceilings and open concept living spaces. The lack of walls lends the space an airy and spacious feeling. Cooking in a kitchen that’s not enclosed makes entertaining so much easier. No longer will you find yourself alone in the kitchen while guests have a good time without you. Better yet, no longer will you be trying to cook in your kitchen while guests crowd in to be with you!

Open concept kitchen design means that more of us have the luxury of cooking at, and sitting around, an island. Some islands feature stoves. That makes entertaining even easier, doesn’t it? You won’t ever need to turn your back on your guests.

But, if you’re going to install a stove in the island, you will need to also install an island range hood. Hung from the ceiling, the island range hood are not only functional. They’re often also a focal point in the kitchen. Look for range hoods that are stylish, unique, and fit well into your home’s decor.

If the kitchen ceiling is extra high, you can still opt for an island range hood. Many of these units come equipped with chimney extensions that reach upwards of 10 feet. If the unit you’ve selected doesn’t have an added extension, you can still purchase one separately.

Featured Product: The Island Mount Extension

oct. 18

Oh, it may not be much to look at. But this stainless steel extension connects to an island range hood and stretches to accommodate extra tall ceilings.

Most new buildings – whether they are units in condo towers, townhomes, semi-detached, or detached homes – feature sky high ceilings. If your home doesn’t feature 10 foot ceilings, you may have seen them on HGTV.

Home buyers love the sense of extra space and airiness that the extra high ceilings give a home. The problem is that fitting any fixtures that typically hang from ceilings, like range hoods and chandeliers, requires special consideration.

This chimney extension attaches to the regular chimney that wall mount and island mount range hoods come with. The extension matches the steel of the range hood allowing for a seamless view.

Monthly Pick – Range Hood Myths Debunked

oct. 16

How much thought do you really give your range hood? I mean, beyond how beautiful it looks, and how stylish it is, and how well it fits with your kitchen decor.

How much thought do you give to how well it works? Don’t feel bad if you’re answer is none at all. You’re not alone. A lot of people don’t spend very much time thinking about how well their range hoods work. In fact, a lot of people out there might have the wrong idea about why they need a range hood in the kitchen at all.

So, here are the three most common myths about range hoods debunked…

Opening a window provides enough ventilation. Actually, no. You’d need a pretty strong breeze to blow through the kitchen to displace any smoke, odors, and fumes that are accumulating as a natural part of cooking. And let’s not even talk about the grease. The problem with a breeze is that it’s not consistent enough to eliminate all those toxins. Beyond that, a breeze is likely to push those toxins through to other parts of your home instead of exhausting them to the outdoors.

The best range hoods fans are the most expensive. Not true. Don’t judge the quality of a range hood by its price. Instead, consider what type of stove you use (gas or electric), how much you tend to cook in the course of a week, and the type of cooking you do (frying, grilling, etc). For help deciding how to choose the best range hood for your home, give us a call!

Range hood fans are too noisy. Some can be very noisy. If noise is a concern for you, there are quiet fans that are also very powerful. Speak to a knowledgeable agent to determine which model suits your needs best.

How To Install An Electronic Circuit Board

oct. 12

As beautiful as your range hood looks in your kitchen, it’s the electronic circuit board that’s really the most awe-inspiring part of the whole appliance. That little component houses all the wires and mechanisms that power the range hood to draw up and exhaust smoke, fumes, grease, and odors out of your kitchen to the outdoors.

Sometimes, after many years of working well, you might find that your range hood stops working. Now what? You might decide that this is the time to remodel the kitchen and buy a new range hood. Or, you might decide to fix the one you have.

If you’re an expert at working with electrical components, you can order a circuit board from Range Hoods Inc. Make sure you’ve chosen the right component for your range hood before placing your order. Better yet, give our expert tech team a call first. Once you’re sure you’ve matched the circuit board to your existing range hood, you can follow the instructions that come with the component.

Before you do, though, I have to ask you to consider whether or not you’re really up to the task. If you’re not already a contractor, consider hiring one to help you install your range hood. Range hood installation requires that you know how to work with drywall, plaster, and any other kind of wall material. You have to know your way around all the electrical components, too.

But, if you’re anything like me, you’re laughing because you’ve been there. Sometimes, you really want to be the perfect DIY-er. You know, the one who doesn’t need help. The one who can do the job without all the proper tools.

DIY Tips: Figuring Out Range Hood Measurements

sept 20

Most of us look around our kitchens and wonder how we might maximize the space we’ve got. There are so many things we need to pack into that one room. Everything from big appliances to utensils needs to have a place in the kitchen. So, when you’re shopping for a new range hood, size becomes a top concern.

Given that you can’t easily shift cabinets around to accommodate a range hood that’s a little too big or small, knowing how range hoods are measured is very important.

So, let’s go there. How do range hood measurements work anyway?

The first place to start is with the advertised measurement. Range hoods are actually between a 1/8″ and 1/4″ smaller than listed. What? So, if you order a range hood that’s 36 inches wide, what exactly are you getting?

You’re actually getting the right range hood. It’s been built to be a slight bit smaller than advertised so that it will fit properly into an opening of that nominal size.
