Wall mount range hoods are mounted above a range sitting against a wall. They have chimneys covering the duct work.

How To Install A Range Hood Chimney

april 24

Many of the range hoods we sell come with the option of a chimney extension. Newer homes tend to be built with 9 foot, 10 foot, or taller ceilings. If you’re purchasing a range hood that is mounted under the cabinets, then the height of the ceiling really doesn’t matter. All that changes when you are trying to fit a range hood over an island or you plan to wall mount it. In that case, you’ll need to add a chimney extension onto the range hood’s existing ductwork.

Take these steps first.

  1. Before choosing your perfect range hood, make sure you measure the ceiling height accurately.
  2. Measure the height of your stove. Most stoves are standard height. Some though, are taller or shorter. You’ll need to know how tall it is in order to get the next step right.
  3. Measure your range hood. This step sounds unnecessary. But, a range hood needs to be installed at a particular height above the stove (check the manufacturer’s suggestion). That measurement will help determine how many chimney pieces you’ll need.

How To Keep Sightlines Open In Your Kitchen

april 16

Kitchens have become so much more than places to cook meals. They have become a gathering place for the whole family and all your friends.

So, how can you make sure that the space you spend so much time in is comfortable?

Sightlines are best explained as empty space. It’s the ability to stand in one part of the kitchen and be able to see all the way to the other side. Sightlines are all about unobstructed views. One of the biggest culprits in broken sightlines is the range hood – not so much the wall-mounted variety, of course.

Think of the island range hood suspended from the ceiling. If you’re standing at the stove, you might have to tilt your head around the range hood to see the people standing in other parts of the kitchen.

There are ways to solve the sightlines problems without tossing out the range hood. Seriously. Don’t do that. The range hood works incredibly hard at clearing the air you breathe of grease, odors, smoke, and fumes. So, you have to keep the range hood. But, there’s no reason why you can’t change they type of range hood.

If you really like an island range hood that is suspended from the ceiling, choose a more powerful model that can be hung higher. It will still do its job while allowing you to see everyone in the kitchen.

If hanging the range hood at an ideal height above your head isn’t an option, look for range hoods that feature a glass canopy. At least you’ll be able to see through the glass.

Another option is to install a ceiling mounted range hood. This type sits flush against the ceiling and is powerful enough to draw up smoke, grease, odors, and fumes from there.

Gorgeous Glass Range Hood Canopies

jan. 22

Range hoods come in a variety of shapes, styles, and installations. You can, for instance, opt for an under-the-cabinet range hood. This type is installed, as the name suggests, underneath the cabinets. The chimney portion of the range hood is hidden behind the cabinets.

Wall-mounted range hoods are just like under-the-cabinet hoods with one difference. The chimney isn’t hidden behind cabinets. It’s exposed and visible. For that reason, the chimney comes with a covering that matches the rest of the range hood, usually stainless steel.

Island range hoods hang from the ceiling directly over an island stovetop. They are typically positioned higher above the stove than either under-the-cabinet or wall-mounted range hoods.

It’s the island range hoods that feature the most variety in terms of style. One of those design features is the glass canopy.

Glass canopies are becoming very popular in kitchen design because they’re see-through. The smaller our kitchens become the more we want the illusion of space and grandeur. Glass range hoods don’t block sightlines. Sometimes steel, copper, or iron range hoods can seem heavy-looking. Glass solves that problem. Gorgeous and functional, give us a call to find out how a glass canopied range hood can work in your kitchen.
