Refresh Your Kitchen With A New Range Hood

mar. 13

Your range hood does a lot for you. It draws up all that grease, smoke, steam, fumes, and odors that cooking produces. Those other appliances we depend on – the refrigerator, stove, microwave – they off gas fumes, too. Your range hood clears the air of all those potentially toxic pollutants. The best thing you can do for yourself and your family is to make sure your range hood is in peak working condition.

Start by giving it a really good cleaning. Use a natural, gentle, citrus-based cleaner. You just want to make sure that the cleaner is gentle enough to use on any surface – stainless steel, aluminum, copper, iron, or even wood. Most range hood filters can be easily detached from the housing and placed in the dishwasher. Run it through a regular cycle and reattach.

Depending on how frequently you cook at the stove, or how much frying you do, you should consider hiring a professional to clean the ducts at least every few years. New range hoods are excellent at separating grease from smoke, fumes, and steam. They trap the grease in the filter and allow everything else to escape to the outdoors. Some of that particulate matter can settle within the duct that leads from the range hood to the outside. A professional duct cleaner will make sure that the ducts are as pristine as possible.

An older range hood may not be very effective at separating the grease from all the other pollutants. In that case, any grease that settles in the ductwork can become a fire hazard. Cleaning out the ducts is very important if your range hood is very old.

Here’s a thought. if your range hood is old, why not take the opportunity now to toss out the old and bring in the new? You’ll get to update the look of your kitchen with a modern range hood and your home’s indoor air quality will be much healthier thanks to improvements in range hood technology.
