How To Install A Range Hood Chimney

april 24

Many of the range hoods we sell come with the option of a chimney extension. Newer homes tend to be built with 9 foot, 10 foot, or taller ceilings. If you’re purchasing a range hood that is mounted under the cabinets, then the height of the ceiling really doesn’t matter. All that changes when you are trying to fit a range hood over an island or you plan to wall mount it. In that case, you’ll need to add a chimney extension onto the range hood’s existing ductwork.

Take these steps first.

  1. Before choosing your perfect range hood, make sure you measure the ceiling height accurately.
  2. Measure the height of your stove. Most stoves are standard height. Some though, are taller or shorter. You’ll need to know how tall it is in order to get the next step right.
  3. Measure your range hood. This step sounds unnecessary. But, a range hood needs to be installed at a particular height above the stove (check the manufacturer’s suggestion). That measurement will help determine how many chimney pieces you’ll need.

Sometimes you just need your range hood to be so much more than a powerful cleaning machine. If you weren’t sure before why we bother to install a range hood in the kitchen, you need to know that the purpose of a range hood is to ensure pristine indoor air quality. It does that by drawing up all the smoke, grease, odor, and fumes that are produced every time we cook. For best results, remember to turn on the range hood fan about 15 minutes before you start cooking, and leave it running for about 15 minutes after you’ve finished cooking.

Beyond it’s ability to keep the air we breathe clean and healthy, a range hood acts as a beautiful focal point. This Broan Rangemaster RM1000 Wall Mount is no exception.

So many condo units and detached homes are designed with features like extra tall ceilings and open concept living spaces. The lack of walls lends the space an airy and spacious feeling. Cooking in a kitchen that’s not enclosed makes entertaining so much easier. No longer will you find yourself alone in the kitchen while guests have a good time without you. Better yet, no longer will you be trying to cook in your kitchen while guests crowd in to be with you!

Open concept kitchen design means that more of us have the luxury of cooking at, and sitting around, an island. Some islands feature stoves. That makes entertaining even easier, doesn’t it? You won’t ever need to turn your back on your guests.

But, if you’re going to install a stove in the island, you will need to also install an island range hood. Hung from the ceiling, the island range hood are not only functional. They’re often also a focal point in the kitchen. Look for range hoods that are stylish, unique, and fit well into your home’s decor.

If the kitchen ceiling is extra high, you can still opt for an island range hood. Many of these units come equipped with chimney extensions that reach upwards of 10 feet. If the unit you’ve selected doesn’t have an added extension, you can still purchase one separately.
