Looking for a truly rare addition to your kitchen? How about a flush mount range hood?
Under-the-cabinet range hoods are typically installed flush against the bottom of the cabinet. But, there’s a new trend in range hood installation that might be perfect in a small kitchen. Island range hoods can be mounted flush against the ceiling. Talk about opening up sightlines!
Is a range hood mounted flush against the ceiling in your future?
The change filter indicator light is such a simple feature, yet so useful. It is, in fact, one of my favorite features of any range hood.
Our lives are so busy! Who wants to keep track of the last time the range hood filter was cleaned? You don’t, either. You would also have to keep track of how much and what kind of cooking you’ve been doing. Do you use the stove every day or most days? Do you cook with oil a lot? Probably more than you think!
I’m always surprised at how much grease my range hood draws up through that filter. It is so easy to forget about the vital task the range hood does to keep the air in our homes clean and fresh. That little change filter indicator light ensures that the filter is always clean and that the range hood lasts a lifetime.
Start by turning the range hood lights off. I know it sounds obvious, but it’s an easy step to forget. Halogen bulbs can get quite hot. So, if you had the range hood lights on when one of them went out, you’ll have to turn the lights off and wait until they’re cool to the touch. How long you might have to wait depends on how long the lights were on before turning them off.
So, once the lights have cooled to the touch, you’ll be able to see that there’s a ring on the front of the light that holds each bulb in place. When you purchased your range hood, you should have also received a hardware kit with tools that can be used to install the unit. One of the tools in that hardware kit is the “A” tool. You can use that to quickly remove the ring and replace the light bulbs as needed.
Every high quality range hood comes equipped with lights. It’s a good thing, too. Imagine whipping up a meal in the near dark. Typical kitchen lighting just doesn’t give off enough light to reach the stove area. Of course, if your stovetop is installed in the middle of a kitchen island, then you probably have the light problem beat. For most of us, though, that extra bit of a lighting is a huge help.
The lights installed on a range hood have a very specific purpose. They help to direct a sufficient level of light right onto the stovetop. If your kitchen is large and bright, you might find that you don’t need to use the light feature. In most kitchens, though, turning on the range hood light while cooking helps to brighten up the space. Some of our older range hoods did come with a dimming feature, but our new hoods won’t. We found that many people preferred the single option of a bright, white light. The single fixed setting also makes it easier to replace the bulb with an LED or other bulb of your choice.
